Protein-Packed Thursdays at Prestwitch Primary School
Every Thursday, 230–240 learners at Prestwich Street Primary School line up for what is often their only protein meal of the week: chicken livers, rice, and vegetables. While the school’s feeding scheme only covers 70 children per day, Thursdays have become the highlight of the week – thanks to this special meal.
As part of Alive Foundation’s Mandela Day efforts, we’ve delivered 240 tins of high-protein chicken livers to the school. Since each tin feeds 10 children, that’s a total of 2,400 meals made possible through this initiative.
These tins cost R24 each, which means it only takes R2.40 to feed one child.
